"Oil painting is just another way of capturing images through the use of light. I find the way light works its magic on the landscape through highlight, shadow, and iridescent play in the sky to be intriguing. Most of my images are of Montana in the northwest and Arizona in the southwest. These are the places I am most familiar. The rich colors of the northwestern landscape are very much in contrast with the muted colors of the southwest. They work well together to keep my interest as I spend most of the summer in the north and winter in the south. I learn something new each time I create a painting. I hope that sense of discovery never wears off." -Jack Hyyppa
